A whole week of events!
Civic Day is a national celebration of civic pride. It is a day when communities across the country say "we care about where we live".
Blackpool Civic Trust held a series of events in the week before Civic Day, which is celebrated throughout England. Its members and other guests began the week with a Heritage Bus Tour of the south of Blackpool. The following day a coffee morning was held at the Salvation army on Raikes Parade.
On Wednesday evening the very popular Heritage Quiz Night and Hotpot Supper took place in the Parish Centre of St Stephens on the Cliffs. On Thursday free Heritage Blue Plaque tours explained some of the history of Blackpool.
On Friday Civic Trust members had very enjoyable visits to the Sandcastle Waterworld and the Sea Life Centre.
All of these activities culminated on Saturday 18th June with a delightful afternoon tea at the Art Deco Cafe located in Stanley Park. The Civic Trust?s award for Street of the Year was presented before the afternoon tea.
Joan Humble, Chair of Blackpool Civic Trust, commented, ?The whole week was hugely enjoyable. The executive committee of the Civic Trust worked very hard and were rewarded with many compliments from our members.
I was especially pleased to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackpool, Coun. Kath Rowson and Joan Goldin, to our afternoon tea. The Mayor presented the award for Street of the Year? 2016 to the residents of Sedgefield Close. The Deputy Mayor and Mayoress Coun. Gary Coleman and Coun. Mrs Debbie Coleman joined us at the Quiz Night.
